If everyone just went at my speed of maybe 100 PM's by the end of the game though... These big figures people quote make me thing I'm not active enough to actually play. Exactly. For me, it's just at a point where it's fun to talk about things and stuff but I've played so many games that I know these people and I also know that whatever we talk about in-game isn't likely to form a lasting friendship post-game, so it's all super low-stakes. Therefore, I feel and I know that I can accomplish the strategic notions of the game in only a few PMs each day at most. ...This clearly isn't the way things go though, so when push comes to shove I get voted out. But it's honestly not worth the effort to me to be fake interested in the things people share under the guise of someone else for the sake of an online game. It's things like this beaucoup numbers of PMs and 8000-word opening speeches that have made me realize playing these games is no longer for me.The idea that the things described in the last line of this post are necessary is objectively just wildly wrong though. We've all just been talking here about how you don't need to use mass PMing to succeed, and Gundham's opening speech is probably the final nail in his coffin! Like, how many PMs do you think the current jury favorite Shuichi has with people? I would guess a couple hundred with most, and this has been a long freaking game. Take a look at his clique thread with Nagito, his closest ally in the game: basically 500 posts total, and that includes ~40 posts from Gonta, mods, etc. And that's his game-long #1 that he was able to message throughout all tribe formations and swaps. Even if we assign all 500 posts to Nagito and Shuichi, over 55 days that's fewer than 5 messages each a day.

It definitely doesn't require the ridiculous amount of PMs/time investment some players put in to do well in these games. In fact, putting in that level of effort is the best way to get 7th-5th place, in my experience The idea that you should be on constantly or be voted out should definitely not exist, though. Bellaphant, Drench, DV and Reck are players that come to mind that aren't constantly online when they play, but generally do well/even win regardless. The first three are even in non-American timezones!!

I think my own were probably extra low because of the fact the only tribal council I went to I was voted out a and as such I never really tried sending quick ones on my phone.
I know this won't be my last survivor game, but I doubt I'll get to matching my best performance again. (But since I never expected doing that well ever, there's. chance I will)

I think it’s still very possible to be solid in these games with a lesser number of PMs, as long as you can still have moderate activity. Every game I’m blown away by the number of PMs people claim to have with each other, but I’ve performed pretty well with a medium number instead. Just never be the once a day person, and make sure you’re around a while for tribals.

Whenever this argument comes up, im always a proponent of love and content is more important than number of PMs. People loved celes for instance because she connected with them, and she did have a lot of PMs but i dont think correlation implies causation.
The nagito shuichi clique didnt even do that they were an alliance of strategy and convenience before they even got super friendly.
Also i really want to play with you sparkling justice sometime you seem like you'd be fun to talk/ally with

i'll just chime in to be the voice of "but also, there's no rule that says this has to be for you." we're very biased. if i didn't genuinely enjoy nongame talk and felt like i had to fake interest in everyone else's lives i wouldn't play either (granted, i barely do as it is)
i'm sad that afaik the few times i've met you in an anon game you've been immediately taken away from me and/or murdered by other people, ms. justice

I concede that I make excuses for other bigger issues with me playing these games, the biggest being that I am a super-duper fan yet I'm not so great at the actual game.
Like the examples of whom you've brought up, they also know how to speak well and convincingly. I just have not figured out the way to talk to people that gets points across and with confidence. The one thing I do have is stubbornness, which hampers me in trying to improve anything.
Hopefully this is all I say on the matter because I don't want to make it all about me as I tend to do.
