Today we're going to take a leaf out of the book of everyone's favorite detective-based board game. That's right, it's... Android?
Your tribe controls characters in a multiplayer Phoenix-Wright-type video game. Your objective is to prove your hunches correct, and disprove the hunches of the other tribes. However, there is no evidence in this case -- it's the perfect crime! Still, you just know your hunches are correct, so all you can do is play dirty to get the real killer behind bars.
The suspects are as follows.
Mahiru Koizumi
Sato
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu
Natsumi Kuzuryu
Shmiyoko Shmionji
Ibluki Blioda
Several names have been changed to protect the innocent.
You will "know" one of these characters to be guilty, and one to be innocent. No two tribes have the same guilty or innocent hunch.
Each tribe will field two players at a time in this challenge. You can tag in and out at any time, though. Any posts by a third player on the same tribe will be ignored (until they are tagged in).
Each tribe has a pool of 20 tokens: four 1-point tokens, three 2-point tokens, two 3-point tokens, one 4-point token, three -1 tokens, two -2 tokens, one -3 token, two alibi tokens, two perjury tokens. Each is randomly assigned a letter (A-T) so that your tribe knows which token is which, but other tribes don't know exactly what you're doing. If this is confusing, check your tribe forum in a couple minutes. Points represent guiltiness of a suspect.
At the end, your tribe gains points equal to the number of points on your guilty hunch and loses points equal to the number of points on your innocent hunch. The tribes with the fewest points lose. In case of a tie, guilty hunches are worth more. If there is still a tie, the tied tribe(s) who most recently placed a token lose.
Should your tribe run out of tokens before time is up, you get a new token pool identical to the first. Yes, this means the letter assignments are the same as well, so feel free to factor that into your strategy.
Point tokens assign that many points to the suspect.
Alibi tokens are worth -5.
Perjury tokens change one alibi token on the suspect into a +5 instead of a -5. If there are not enough alibi tokens present on this suspect to do this, the perjury token acts as a -5 instead, so be careful!
There are several actions you can take by posting accordingly.
Point-scoring actions: (Using these actions in the right order is the only way to score points. You can also use them for obfuscating purposes, or even score points for another tribe.)
Take evidence: Choose a token from your tribe's token pool. You must wait two minutes before taking another action. Once you have taken evidence, your other tribe members cannot take the same token.
Plant evidence on {suspect}: Place your token on any suspect of your choosing. Your suspect choice is known to everyone. You must wait three minutes before taking another action.
Lockdown actions: (These actions are used to stop other players from doing anything, or stop enemies from locking down your teammates.)
Restrain {player}: Stops target, as well as yourself, from taking actions. You may only use this on a player who is not holding any evidence as well as not restraining anybody else mostly because that would turn out really silly. This action lasts until you release the player or another player frees them. You cannot take other actions while restraining a player or while being restrained. You must wait at least three minutes before using another action. (And, unless your target has been freed, the only action you can take is release.)
Release {player}: Stop holding another player. This allows you to use other actions. You must wait at least five minutes before taking another restrain action, but otherwise can act after one minute. You may release players who are not on your tribe.
Free {restrained player}: Undo restraint on another player. You cannot use this on yourself. You must wait three minutes before taking another action.
Defensive action: (This action directly stops another tribe from scoring points or taking your points away.)
Interfere with {player who is holding evidence}: Stop your target. This discards their evidence token (permanently -- it cannot be selected by that tribe again unless they use all their tokens first) and forces them to start over. You can only interfere with a player who has taken evidence but has not yet planted it. You must wait five minutes before taking another action.
Take an action by declaring you are taking it in bold. Use these exact phrases with the names substituted out for the appropriate ones:
{Monokuma} takes evidence token {Z}.
{Monokuma} plants evidence on {Mikan Tsumiki}.
{Monokuma} restrains {Monomi}.
{Monokuma} releases {Monomi}.
{Monokuma} frees {Junko Enoshima}.
{Monokuma} interferes with {Makoto Naegi}.
And, as previously mentioned, you can also Tag out for {tribe member} and have another tribe member take your place. Once you tag in, you must play for half an hour before you can tag out again (to prevent abuse). Just be sure to remember that if someone tags out while restrained, they are still restrained, and any restrictions on their next chance to use an action are still in place. A given slot can only tag in/out once per half hour.
Brackets are optional. Player last names are optional. Punctuation is optional. Exactly correct spelling is required, so feel free to try to trip up your opponents with intentional misspellings. Use of font color changes and text alignment changes is allowed. Font size changes are not allowed, nor are spoiler tags or anything I didn't just explicitly allow. You can't have more than one thing that looks like an action in a single post (no misspelling the same action 20 different ways...).
Any action that is invalid for any reason -- misspelling, too soon relative to the period that player needed to wait, the user doesn't realize they are restrained, they choose a token that is not in their pool, etc. -- is treated as though it were not posted at all.
The mods will answer questions when possible, but will not be keeping track of what actions have succeeded or failed and will not let you know what tokens you have left or how many are on each suspect -- that's your job, and paying attention to detail is part of this challenge! We will only tally everything up at the end. So make sure you format your actions properly and keep track of what's going on! If, for instance, you try to reuse your tokens when you still have one token in your token pool, you'll just be wasting your time, since it doesn't refresh until you use them all.
We promise the complexity level of this challenge is not going to be typical.
The challenge starts at 6:00 PM Eastern on Saturday and will last two hours. (The challenge takes place in this thread.) Then, the two tribes with the least points (tribes' final scores will be determined by summing all the tokens on both of their suspects, with all values on the innocent suspect counting negatively) will head to their first Class Trials. Please be patient with us after the challenge ends, as we expect it could take an hour or more to tally.
